Coulissen West Breda Buildings: 5TRACKS

Towers containing restaurants, shops, offices and apartments are linked to the concourses by elevated pathways. “The new public realm is an important factor in establishing a link to the existing city and forms the entries to the city of Breda. “The public transport terminal is not a UFO which could have landed anywhere but is a specific solution designed to best suit the location.” Planting and ManagementFor the planting along the Nieuwe Mark, we consider plant-associations that naturally occur in the Markdal. For this part of the objective the inspiration comes from the main plant associations like grassland, tall-herb fringe and scrub combined with the of urban plant community. Using a layered approach, we integrate trees and shrubs with perennials into a resilient plant community. With that in mind, they came up with a rather mysterious alternative for the classic swing bridge. With a relatively high counterweight, the bridge swings open horizontally rather than vertically, treating those lucky enough to see the bridge move, to a dynamic surprise. Though subtle in design, the bridge proudly rises up from the landscape, following one direct line from either side of the Oude Rijn. https://gab.com/architectbreda/posts/115168893029010294 %3A0xe63983c751203eed!2sArchitect%20Breda!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sph!4v1761100065065!5m2!1sen!2sph” width=“600” height=“450” style=“border:0;” allowfullscreen=“” loading=“lazy” referrerpolicy=“no-referrer-when-downgrade”> Architects and architectural historians from Italy, the Netherlands and Germany met on May 13 and 14, 2022 in a symposium at the Münster School of Architecture. From the outset, the conference’s purpose (The Palladio Method) was to consider Palladio as a draughtsman and designer, mason and engineer, innovator and image maker. Participants were asked to explore what can be learnt in modern practice from the 16th-century master. This summer marks five years since the opening of KAAN Architecten Paris office, a notable milestone in the firm’s expanding international presence.

We bundle this knowledge together enabling us to create powerful and original transit architecture. Activating collective functions5TRACKS enlivens the neighborhood by offering a combination of housing, offices, a hotel, and commercial amenities that activate both the street and garden sides. Platform_A includes a lobby with a bistro and terrace, as well as a conference center with a restaurant facing the garden. Platform_B and Platform_C offer approximately 15,700 m² of office space arranged around large atriums, topped by 168 apartments. These atriums, featuring tall glass façades towards the street and the garden, skylights, and the exterior materials continuing in the inner façades, function as ‘urban living rooms’. The shared inner courtyard serves as a welcoming public space for the city’s locals, seamlessly integrating 5TRACKS into the urban fabric. “In Breda, the changes in the design – which occurred over the course of the design phases – are expressed and celebrated in the brickwork,” they added. “The result is a nuanced facade of a human scale and with a place in the history of the city.” Koen van Velsen Architects has created a new transport hub in Dutch city Breda, featuring a huge entrance canopy and a variety of brickwork styles (+ slideshow). Celebrating its fifth anniversary, it reflects not only on the projects realised but also on the solid foundations laid for future growth. The collaboration between the Paris and Rotterdam teams, now comprising around 100 professionals, emphasises KAAN Architecten’s enduring commitment to designing for the public good through expertise, research, and innovation. Spatial positioningThe three iconic, triangular monoliths Platform_A, Platform_B, and Platform_C define the urban edge along the railway. On the city side, the ensemble creates a solid urban front that integrates naturally with the adjacent Central Station and courthouse while aligning in height with its urban context. On the garden side, the buildings rise in a stepped rhythm, forming a varied backdrop that breaks the green heart of 5TRACKS into a series of ‘garden rooms’. The void also features an entrance for visitors who want to enter the bank from the rear. From this entrance you have a full view along the diagonal in the corner to the other entrance. To emphasise the transparency, the roof consists of a combination of glass and vegetation. The firm is also ranked among the top 10 Architecture/Engineering firms in Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms and the Top 30 Interior Design Firms in Interior Design magazine’s Top 100 Giants. The aim of the revitalization of Breda is not to create a new mono-functional complex on an area of approximately 10,000 m2 but rather to provide space for different forms of use that will complement, influence, and develop each other. She leads a skilled and dedicated team of six French-Italian architects with extensive experience on French projects. Koen van Velsen Architects is based in the city of Hilversum in north Holland. Among the studio's previous projects is a rehabilitation centre in a Dutch forest. All in all, the architect succeeded brilliantly in giving the former multi-company building a new purpose. This is reflected not only in the use of low-maintenance materials such as aluminium, but also in energy efficiency. The “ALUMINIUM WALL COPINGS TURNED OUT TO BE THE PERFECT SOLUTION” while building even complies with Breeam Very Good. An equally radical change is that a beautiful void has been built in the corner of the L, which is like a triangle between the two sides.
